P-Weekend and Bush Week

In Semester 1, we have Orientation Week (O-Week) to welcome the new students in Bruce and ANU. What happened in O-Week 2009 is a story for another time. In Semester 2, there is P-Weekend and Bush Week (first week in Semester 2) which is packed with activities as well to welcome any new students that come in during this time of the year.

Here's what happened during the past week or so during P-Weekend and Bush Week. First event occured last last Friday which was Scribble Bar Night. Idea is you bring a white shirt to the Buttery (our very own Bruce Bar) and scribble on everyone else.

Scribble, scribble, scribble.... Roo and Kathryn

More scribble. Kristina and Siang.

No space on your shirt ? No problem, there is always your body.

Hitting a club after a bar night as per Bruce tradition.

After that night, it was breakfast trivia in the morning, champagne included. So... drinking was resumed the next morning. Nothing too interesting that morning except for one table getting drunk a tad bit too fast. Later that night we had a Fire Pit Night. Was a pretty chilled night. Some casual drinks and sitting around a big fire in the cold Canberra winter just chilling out.

Fuer frei !

Mariella the Austrian.

A chilled night out by the fire.

And then last Sunday was Back To School Bar Night. It is a night where you dress in your old school uniform or someone else's or make up your own uniform. My school uniform is way cooler than all of of yours. Anyway...

Christian and I.

Tony Rusden.

Crutches didn't stop him from partying. What's your excuse ?

Christine and I. It's all about the ties.

Aiko is not in her Japanese school uniform. That skirt is way too long to be Japanese.

A great deal of thanks goes out to Miss Eleanor Cannon whose tie I stole for the night.

And finally, last Wednesday we had Christmas In July which Kathryn was able to witness first hand. This time people dressed up Christmas-themed for dinner and a bar night after. Dinner was slightly special with prawns and oysters. FREAKING OYSTERS for Hall food man !

A red candy cane with white stripes & a white candy cane with white stripes.

Mr. & Mrs. Claus reading out the Nice and Naughty List.

AJ.... the rather disturbing lunberjack. He is Bruce's jock afterall.

Dave, Oli and I. 2 partying doctors.

My stripes were gone. =(

P-Weekend and Bush Week was massive fun for most of us. We met and welcomed more new people into our community. Although the stress in Semester 2 will kick in, we will have more events to have our fun and enjoy it with our friends, both new and old.

Just Another Night At Bruce

Bruce Hall or simply Bruce is the residential college which I stay at the Australian National University. I have been here for a year now and my stay has been nothing but splendid. The community is vibrant, energetic and most of all, friendly. People here are warm and approachable which makes settling in a simple task.

Thursdays at Bruce are known to be party nights as clubs around Canberra offer $2/$3 dollar drinks. It happens that yesterday was a Thursday and one of my friends who used to live on my floor, moved to a new room into Packard Wing (the self catered wing with a kitchen in the room). Ms Kat Gan invited some of us over to her new room for a room warming offering dinner. So a bunch of us crashed her room and cooked dinner together for a night of fun and amusement. Cooking was made interesting with 2 fire incidents. This prompted us to cover the smoke detector (which is actually not allowed, doh) so we don't set off the fire alarm. After dinner the crowd decided to hit a nearby club Mooseheads. What did you know, there was $2 jagerbombs that night. Fuuuuuuckkkkkk yeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa..... I had too many jagerbombs to remember but the final tally was probably around 8 ? Oh and I stole a road sign on my way back.

Our host, Kat (right) with Cat.

Lachland with the burnt croissants. They were literally on fire.

The other chef, Ms Georgie Chudek.

A Broken Fellowship

There are very few people whom I consider as my close friends. I knew all these while that some of them are undependable, unreliable. However, I never thought that any of them would disappoint me when things were important. I was proven wrong. When one person cannot rely on their "brothers" one tends to wonder what friendship is all about.

I believe I have never turned down requests for help when my close friends ask for it. I do not think I have disappointed any of you when it really mattered. When people dissed you, I defended you even if you did not ask for it. I was on your side when when you were clearly in the wrong. When you were in physical, financial or morale trouble, I helped you out. We planned everything so long ago. Everything was going to be alright. Until you all screwed up, big time. No sorry, no apology, no nothing.

The word "kakilang" used to mean so much to me. Now it does not mean a damn thing to me. Just a memory in the distant past. Sure we had great times together. Friends who are fun but unreliable when it matters, are friends I rather not have.

So much for "Money can earn later. But friends cannot be lost".

I Will Carry You

"I will carry you to a sunset fairytale."

Our love story is just short that of a fairytale. I thank God everyday that He gave you to me.
